Character Rules:

  1. No BS rule: No anime stereotypes, one- or two-dimensional characters, super talented 11 year olds, mysterious transfer students, mary sues, john stews, or perfect kids from perfect families. To summarize: be realistic and have REAL character flaws and traits. Clumsiness and waking up late are not substantial character flaws. Being quick to judge, having a psychological weakness (pride, vengeance etc), or lacking moral integrity are real flaws. We are seriously judging on the quality and effort you put into making your character.
  2. Coherent and believable: Character bio should make sense and be easily to read (please don't send me 20 paragraphs of text, I do not have the time). Your character biography should directly contextualize with your character's personality traits. Answer "why" your character acts the way they do etc.
  3. Character age: Absolute minimum is 18, preferred minimum age is 19. All applicants must be students attending Kamenoko University. You may make non-university characters if admitted into the group.
  4. Visual guidelines: Black and white, inked, and preferably screen-toned in order to support the manga feel of the group setting.
  5. There are no uniforms, but there are no cat suits and bunny ears, either. Please be realistic in the way your character dresses themselves.
  6. This should be obvious, but art theft, including copying and tracing or using a "base", will not be tolerated. You must draw your own characters. Traditional art is allowed, as long as it fits our visual guidelines.

Chatroom & Roleplay Rules

  1. OOC Room: (KamenokoOOC) This is for normal/crack chat. Get along with everyone and have fun and do whatever, as long as you're not causing trouble for other people.
  2. KamenokoRP: No icons except for your character icon in any of our RP chats. We're very focused on writing and feels so we force you to think rather than rely on images. It also ruins the nice B&W feel. If you want to crack RP you can use the OOC room or create your own chat. This is a 'serious' rp chatroom, and you should roleplay in the following format, past-tense to keep consistency:
:iconhatsuharaplz: Kuro: Glancing towards her with an amused expression, he raised an eyebrow, "I hope you're joking," he commented as he wiped the kitchen counter with the cloth.

If you want to write your character's thoughts, you may use italics or quotations (as long as the person reading it understands that the quotations are your characters thoughts, not spoken dialogue.) Furthermore, we don't want any icons/emotes except for your character icon in this chat room. It's much more immersible this way and forces people to think.
  3. KamenokoMezzanine: No icons still except character icon of course. Script-style RP is fine. Generally used as a secondary chatroom or just for faster-paced RP.
  4. Our group does not have a rating. While we aren't openly cybering with each other or something (...this might be a lie), we don't limit our topics or language. Please be aware of this. We're pretty open minded and like to joke around in the OOC room. If you're easily offended, it probably isn't the best place for you to hang out.
  5. Be objective in roleplay. We aren't a fluffy sparkly shipping OTP group. We love our sado. Please stay objective in character relationships!!! We take our character development seriously. Not everything works out in life. Use it as an advantage for your character. If you're too scared to see your character go through even some minor development and struggle like normal humans do, then you'll feel uncomfortable. We're here to write interesting stories and reflect on life, not make delusional relationships where people are happy forever.
  6. There is absolutely NO mun/character correlation. There are all types of personalities across the characters, but do not relate them to the author/creator/mun under any circumstance, even if you think they are. i.e., don't be whipping out personal feelings just because you somehow think the mun and the character are similar and you hate the character. Stay objective.
  7. No member drama BS. Keep the drama in the roleplay. Any in-chat drama between muns will be promptly dealt with and, yes, if you are too immature to handle the group then I will send you a lovely warning and possibly kick you. I really value the fact that we're more mature, open-minded, and deal with more intense roleplay subjects. Anyone who decides to take these things out personally may be asked to leave the group.

If you think that you can't stay objective enough in roleplay and that you'll have a tantrum because your ~*~*OTP*~*~ didn't work out, then please reconsider joining this group.
  8. This is not strictly an academy/school RP group. Please be a little more creative than "he/she goes to school to study". You have a whole city to work with and there are tons of possibilities. If you're stuck, there are RP prompts in the chat rooms.

Basic deviantart chatroom rules apply, of course.

Gallery Guidelines:

You are free to submit group-related art on the following folders:
  • Feels - Any kind of submission that's in tangent with the manga feel.
  • Colored Works - Anything colored, but we'd appreciate only quality art.
  • Written Works - Anything written.
  • Doodles - Anything drawn, and no quality requirement.
  • Projects and Memes - Any kind of answered meme, or project.

Google Doc rules & guide:

Kamenoko's RPing uses google docs quite a lot, mostly to allow time for people to reply and slow down the pace a little. It's great if your time zones don't match up with your RP partners. Please be aware of the rules, however, and don't expect fast replies using this method. It's slower-paced and meant for paragraph / literature RPing.

FAQ

Will you have a member limit?
No. We want to keep tight-knit (so our acceptances per enrolment are small), but there is no set cap.

When will future enrollments happen?
Enrollments will happen occasionally. Please read the application journal: kamenoko-university.deviantart…

Do you take affiliation requests?
Yes! Simply send us an invite and we will accept.

Can I apply to be a moderator?
Nope! Everyone is a contributor and we work together as a group. We have no mod team and will avoid it as much as we can.

Does my character have to be Japanese?
Preferably, since it does take place in Japan and we are trying to keep a realistic setting. If your character is international, please provide reasons as to WHY they are studying in Japan and how they can afford it. It's extremely expensive...perhaps triple the price of regular tuition! If you are having a non-Japanese character, please do some research and familiarize yourself with the ethnic issues in Japan. It's a good RP device for character development : D

Can I make my own job / can my character have another job that isn't on the list?
No. You can apply for one of the jobs in this journal once you are a member. We are doing this to keep the role play more interactive between characters. If everyone has different jobs then they won't be meeting each other as often!!! If you obtain enough credits in the future and we approve it, then yes, you may make your own job. Your character can have previous jobs, though (in their history).

Do you do app checks?
No. ):

Do you have an art standard?
To a degree, yes. We want to support the manga feeling of this group as much as possible. Of course, the effort you put into your character as a whole is a lot more important than the art itself. If you have nice art but your character biography and personality isn't strong, then you won't be considered. Additionally, if your character bio and personality is very well-written but you disregard our visual style, the same consequence will occur.

English is my second language and I'm not confident in my writing skills!
That's okay. We appreciate that you try your best. When applying, please let us know that English is your second language or that you aren't fluent in it. If we see you put the effort in and the character is realistic and following our rules, we are totally fine with this!!

Why is it called Kamenoko?
. . .  : )
